Cedar Falls Parks and Recreation Master Plan

HKGi led a planning process to update the Cedar Falls Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The planning process was initiated to provide the City with an inventory, analysis, and review of its existing facilities and program offerings with the intention to identify places for refinement to meet the community’s evolving needs. This plan was also intended to identify service gaps within currently developed areas, and HKGi has identified seven search areas for potential new or expanded park facilities. To help the City secure a funding source for new parks in new growth areas, HKGi staff drafted a park dedication ordinance to be adopted as part of the City’s development code.

The plan’s goals and objectives are organized around several key themes to ensure the plan addresses the many facets of the Cedar Falls system. These include Neighborhood Parks and Play Areas; Ballfields, Courts and Multi-Purpose Fields; Recreational Trails; Recreation Programs; Operations, Maintenance, and Staffing; Access, Signage, and Communication; and Partnerships, Funding, and Stewardship.

As part of its services for this project, HKGi also took a close look at the city’s trail network and included trail-related planning, design, and operations/maintenance guidance in the final plan report.
