Comprehensive Plan

HKGi led the comprehensive planning process to update the City of Maplewood’s Comprehensive Plan to guide development through 2040. Maplewood’s development levels and unique boundaries present interesting planning challenges that require creative thinking and additional effort to ensure that engagement and planning initiatives reach across the entire city.

For this planning process, HKGi analyzed commuting patterns for both residents and for commuters travelling to Maplewood for employment in order to better understand travel patterns and likely future development opportunities. HKGi also created three new mixed use land use types and an Employment future land use to accommodate potential development at the 3M headquarters as well as other potential jobs-based development locations. Planning also addressed redevelopment along the Gold and Purple BRT Lines, and revitalization of aging building and residential stock.
