HKGi led a multi-disciplinary consultant team through this ten-month effort to develop a revived vision for this highly visible area. One of the nine objectives of Edina's Vision 20/20 strategic plan is to facilitate the evolution of Southdale and environs into a premier shopping, business and health care center. The Greater Southdale Area Study will help realize this objective by building a more thorough understanding of the land use and transportation issues that will shape the area's future. The consultant team will explore exciting ideas such as the potential for reorienting large retail sites towards an internal greenway spine, utilizing greater amounts of mixed-use development, and the possibilities for redesigning Southdale Mall and the Galleria. The Study will also recommend methods for resolving growing traffic and circulation problems, including the potential for building better pedestrian and bicycle facilities and establishing a circulator transit service.
