The South Lyndale Avenue Corridor in south Minneapolis provides the surrounding neighborhoods with a mixed-use environment for shopping, working and living. Rapid growth and redevelopment pressures, combined with the potential for realigning a major highway through the area, created the need for the surrounding neighborhood groups and the City of Minneapolis to establish a vision for how the corridor should look and function and to build a strategy to guide future development within the corridor. As the lead consultant on this complex project, HKGi gathered input from a broad array of stakeholders that included four different neighborhood organizations, City planners, area business- and land-owners, state transportation representatives and local residents. From this process HKGi's landscape architects developed a master plan and design guidelines that will provide standards against which redevelopment proposals can be assessed.
