St. Louis Park, MN
HKGi has completed streetscape designs for a portion of Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park, extending between Monterey Boulevard and France Avenue. Working with H.R. Green, HKGi provided design for all of the project elements exclusive of the roadway, including pedestrian and street lighting, median landscaping, custom bus shelters, paving, retaining walls and boulevard plantings. The project involved close coordination with Hennepin County and was subject to the County's roadway and aesthetic design policies. HKGi has also assisted the City with the creation of special service districts used to finance the ongoing maintenance of these improvements.

Hopkins, MN
Hoisington Koegler Group completed a corridor study for Excelsior Boulevard from the western border to the eastern border of the city of Hopkins. The study resulted in a corridor master plan that addressed land use, transit, pedestrian and bicycle circulation, roadway improvements and financial implementation.

The Excelsior Boulevard study included an extensive public participation program utilizing a steering committee and four different focus groups representing four specific geographic areas.

Major components of the Excelsior Boulevard Corridor Study included an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the corridor, the development of a series of roadway and land use alternatives, the testing of each alternative, and the selection of a preferred alternative. HKGi developed a detailed land use plan including design guidelines. Implementation strategies focused on redevelopment recommendations, funding sources, phasing and business relocation requirements.

Based on HKGi's Corridor Study, implementation efforts are currently underway. HKGi provided design and construction administration for Phase One and Two improvements, which have been completed, and are providing the same services for Phase Three, which is currently in the design process.
