HKGi provided planning and landscape architecture services for The Foundation Architects on this public band shell project, which recently received an Award of Excellence from the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association. The facility hosts popular events sponsored by organizations like Arts in the Parks and the Bloomington Fine Arts Council and is also the home of Bloomington's 4th of July festival. Site features include a sloping lawn seating area accommodating up to 500 spectators that is designed to mesh with already existing park and trail facilities. During the planning phase an extensive public participation process ensured that adjacent landowners would remain involved throughout the project. The site layout also needed to address shoreland and grading challenges while simultaneously keeping existing trails open during construction. HKGi's technical expertise and planning guidance not only helped achieve this goal but also helped to complete the project on schedule. The resulting facility and the process used to build it is often looked upon as a model by other communities interested in developing similar facilities.
