Hoisington Koegler Group is in the process of completing a land use plan update for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa's
reservation covering a 72 square mile area. The plan is focused on assuring the highest and best use of Tribal land while promoting a
sustainable, self-reliant future for generations to come. A key element of the plan's approach is the recognition that human beings
are integral components of ecosystems and have an important role in shaping the natural environment. The Land Use Plan establishes
ways to protect natural, cultural and energy resources from the adverse effects of unmanaged growth and development.

Contained within the plan is a comprehensive set of goals and initiatives that are intended to influence the location, intensity and timing
of future growth through both tribal and private development, public investment in infrastructure and conservation of natural areas. Goals
and initiatives were formulated, reviewed and endorsed as part of a public involvement component of the project that included a series of
open house meetings.
The Land Use Plan promotes a number of sustainable initiatives including renewable energy. Potential sources for renewable energy include
wind, biomass, passive solar and photovoltaic panels.
