HKGi has served the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) for many years in the planning and design of a variety of Minneapolis park improvement projects. The firm's success in leading an inclusive public process, incorporating creative and timeless design solutions, and developing clear and understandable bid documents are all part of the reason the MPRB continues to turn to HKGi for these projects.

The parks (Victory Park, Keewaydin Park, Pershing Park, Webber Park, Cedar Field Park, and East Phillips Park) are located throughout the City of Minneapolis and serve a broad spectrum of Minneapolis residents with improvements ranging from playgrounds, trails, shelters, sports fields, picnic areas, and new lighting to interpretive signage and new plantings.

The common challenge in designing any of these parks has been to respond to the context of the existing historic neighborhoods while providing resilient built solutions that can still be constructed within constrained budgets. HKGi’s approach to the park design ensures that specific neighborhood concerns are incorporated into the plans early via a series of workshop meetings with neighbors and other concerned citizens. This input is integrated into conceptual design alternatives that are again presented to the citizens for input. Final plans inherently carry the message of this local input and create park improvements that are specific to the context of the neighborhood in which they exist.
