Beginning as a farming community in the mid-1800s, Inver Grove Heights gained popularity as a suburb following WWII, and today is a growing metropolitan city of over 30,000 residents. Building of its work on the 2000 Comprehensive Plan, HKGi was hired by the City in 2007 to complete the Metropolitan Council’s requirement for an updated 2030 Comprehensive Plan. HKGi implemented a variety of public involvement strategies including open houses, workshops, listening sessions and on-line surveys. One common theme that emerged from the public input was the desire that Inver Grove Heights be a “Healthy Community.” This idea includes the health of various entities: the natural environment, job and population growth, local commerce, education, transportation, and recreation
