Eagan’s rich geological and early human settlement history is evident in the way the city has developed over time. Transportation was first based on Indian trails and early cross-country railroad development. In the late part of the twentieth century, Eagan experienced a large suburban housing boom, consisting of mainly single-family homes. Eagan is a suburban city, but is also the industrial and commercial hub of Dakota County. HKGi’s past experience with Dakota County park system planning made it an attractive resource for developing Eagan’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update completed in 2009. Public input was a large part of determining the vision for Eagan’s plan, and several open houses were held in 2008.
