In November, 2007, Hoisington Koegler Group Inc., teamed with Design Workshop and Urban Design Associates to master plan and
create preservation/development strategies for the University of Minnesota's Outreach, Research and Education site, known as
UMore Park. UMore is a 5,000 acre site located 25 miles southeast of the Twin Cities at the suburban-rural interface, near
Rosemount, Minnesota. It is the largest contiguous property owned by a land grant university within the United States.
This 12 square mile property has remained largely undeveloped since the University of Minnesota obtained it from the Federal
government some 60 years ago. Since owning it, the University has conducted
more
important agricultural research and now recognized the importance of the property in funding the University of Minnesota endowment
while also leaving a sustainable legacy on the land.
The vision established by the HKGi/ Design Workshop team suggests a new community grounded in sustainable development with elements
including ecological preserves, permaculture, rainwater reuse, energy generation and rail transit.
This complex project encompasses master planning, market evaluation, governance, design and environmental guidelines for an innovative
new community of 30,000. HKGi is presently initiating work with the University to update the comprehensive plans for the City of
Rosemount, Empire Township and Dakota County. HKGi is also initiating work on required environmental reviews.
