The City of Moorhead, Mn asked HKGi to complete a Growth Area Plan for the south half of their city. The following year, the City asked HKGi if we could continue our relationship and creat a GAP for the north half. The Growth Area Master Plans are designed to support the goals established in Moorhead's Comprehensive Plan through development and land use frameworks for future growth in the city. One of those key goals is to ensure that the city’s growth areas utilize new development patterns characterized by walkable neighborhoods, identifiable districts and a variety of housing and commercial types. The detailed land use plan at the heart of the Growth Area Plan illustrates how such patterns can be achieved. Pedestrian-friendly street networks promote walking by directly connecting residences with commercial, civic and recreational destinations as well as job centers.

An accessible and integrated system of open spaces, parks and parkways further encourages pedestrian activity and will provide attractive and valuable amenities for future residents. As envisioned by these Plans, Moorhead’s Growth Areas will evolve into transit-supportive neighborhoods that provide an important mixture of housing options for current and future residents of the region.
