The City of Minnetrista hired HKGi to develop a master plan with citizen input that would guide the City in its park development
and park land acquisition efforts. HKGi's park planners first performed an analysis on Minnetrista's current park system and on other
recreational opportunities in the immediate area. HKGi also performed a needs assessment in order to identify neighborhoods that
are currently under served by the park system as well as to identify areas in which future growth would necessitate the acquisition
and development of new park land. Input from three public workshops gave the master plan strong direction whose outcome is truly
representative of the community.

Much of Minnetrista is presently rural and residents wanted to preserve the natural open spaces and rural character. The Greenway plan includes
Minnetrista's most significant natural resource areas like the pristine water quality of Little Long Lake, the surrounding Tamarack, Maple-Basewood
Forests and wetland complexes. The Master Plan includes a set of implementation recommendations and ordinance changes for dealing with park land
acquisition, greenway preservation and trail development in both Minnetrista's rural and urban future developments.
