St. Paul Central Corridor Bike / Walk Action Plan

The Metropolitan Council, the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and the Hennepin and Ramsey County are planning and designing the
Central Corridor light rail transit (LRT) line between downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul. Hoisington Koegler Group was retained
to prepare a plan to fully integrate the pedestrian and bikeway network with the future transit line in Saint Paul and to increase bike
and walk mode share. The planning process utilized an interdepartmental staff team for guidance and used innovative outreach using
the Web, project newsletters, focus group sessions and open house meetings.

The Plan built on previous LRT and corridor plans and included extensive evaluation of the existing networks and planned station areas.
The evaluation revealed bikeway and walkway needs and gaps. It also identified potential links to destinations beyond the LRT stations. The
Bike-Walk Action Plan includes plans, design standards and recommendations for new bikeways, sidewalk and pedestrian enhancements, a
way-finding system, integration with LRT stations, funding strategies, and secure bike storage.
