Johnston Comprehensive Plan
Johnston's Comprehensive Plan is a document that establishes guidelines for the future growth of the community. It presents a vision
of what a community is to be in the future. The current vision, however, was established over ten years ago. Since that time, Johnston has experienced
significant residential and commercial growth. The population has increased from approximately 7,000 to 16,000 and property values have increased from
approximately $500 million to more than $1.6 billion. Accordingly, the city has begun a year-long process to update the Comprehensive Plan.
The process of developing the updated plan will be a community-wide effort. Residents, businesspersons, and other interested groups will have a part in determining
what the new vision will be. The updated plan will include goals and objectives as well as specific recommendations along with a time frame for implementation. The
new Johnston Comprehensive Plan will address land use, housing, parks, transportation, and utilities. When complete, it will help guide decisions that
will impact the future of the community.
